Goodbye Until San Salvador

As you know, I’m at Camp with 6 of our kids from church, and also teaching small group to 300 or more kids. Great, wonderful week.

As I head home tomorrow and prepare to travel to El Salvador on Sunday, I’ll tell you a great story.

I ate dinner with Matt last night (first time I’ve seen him much all week … you think he’s having fun? :-) ), and the counselor at our table said to me… I understand you’re going to meet your new little boy on Monday.

Well, I didn’t quite know how to respond to that. It was like, ‘yeah’.. and then I was like… whoa!

I realized that in 72 hours we’re truly going to see him. It was a sobering moment for me.

Yesterday’s theme at Camp was “persistence.” We have a different theme every day: a word and lesson for the day (eg: Listen, Ask, Pray).

It gave me time during small groups and chapel time to reflect on how we’ve truly been persistent ourselves for this child–our chosen child, the child that God has ordained and set aside and has chosen for us–who will now become our new son next week. It was a wonderful, wonderful reflective day.

I’ll be honest, that persistence has been tiring and emotional.

We learned it over 1,005 days (3 years this October), and it’s finally going to pay off.

……………………………..

So as we prepare to travel, we carry with us a verse–a promise–that for some reason God just will not release us from since we started this journey.

He continues to pierce our hearts and humble our actions, as we prepare for one of life’s grandest moments.

Jer 33:3-’Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable (indescribable) things you do not know.’

Daryl is partial to the Amplified and Message bibles, which bring amazing color to His promise:

3Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, fenced in and hidden, which you do not know (do not distinguish and recognize, have knowledge of and understand).

3′Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’

You’re watching promise materialize. And it is the most humbling, incredible, indescribable feeling to be in the midst of it.

……………………………..

Our prayers needs are as follow:

1.   Safe Travel
2.   Safe Health in country – no sickness
3.   Easy days of transition next week.

Monday, we’ll appear in a local El Salvador court for a psychological exam ordered by the judge. (Yes, we did one of these 2 years ago here in the U.S.  He wants his own).

Afterwards, we hope to be granted visitation privileges and go to our son’s children’s home to meet him. This will allow us time together to begin the bonding process before the court date on Thursday.

……………………………..

I’ll try to post daily updates and photos once we get settled in ES.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Adios!

we are praying for your family. I am putting a post on our new girls bedroom bulletin board! This is where we are keeping special reminders of things related to THEM, but we want to support your El Salvador adoption as we are seeking our own. I can hardly wait to hear your story and see pictures of your family. And I keep thinking my girls could be there!! I am praying for you. May you live in the moment and be awed by God’s grace and Plan. I can’t wait to be where you are. :-) hugs from OK
